The roses are deciduous shrubs with stings on the trunk, branches and twigs. The Damascus rose is Medicinal Plant of the Year 2013. According to the <i>NHV<\/i> association, which selected the plant, the plant has anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant and antipyretic properties. Aromatherapy uses its essential oil for mental and physical relaxation, among other things. The &#8216;Trigintipetala&#8217; variety is mentioned as early as 1689. Its flowers are pink and have a strong fragrance. The typical form of the Rosa damascena is slightly climbing rose-like with slightly nodding pink flowers. It is one of the summer blooming Damascus roses and is up to two meters high. (A.D. 23-79) attributed relief from toothache to dried roses. Dioscurides (1st century AD) recommended decoctions of rose petals for headaches. The Greek physician Galen (5th century AD) prescribed rose ointment for puberty spots and rose water to soothe injuries.<\/p>\n<p>In the 12th century A.D. Hildegard von Bingen advises applying rose petals to inflamed eyes. And Paracelsus (16th century AD) used the rose in the \u201cSpecificum Odoriferum\u201d &#8211; a fragrance for treating illnesses &#8211; and used it for drowsiness, headache and fatigue during infections.<\/p>\n<p>Today the rose is mainly used in the form of its isolated essential oil.
